Coming back out of it

Author: admin

Everything has kind of been hibernating this week. I have been less motivated to write since my mom and dad have been sick as doggies and not even using the computer! So happy to hear mom and dad are feeling better. PLUS Mike and I both have been hit with colds this week and are going in and out of that depending on the time of day.

I’ve been concentrating a lot on the real estate work this week, doing an extra flyer and a lot of planning for future blog entries. And also hooking my realtor up with other friends to get some houses listed! Good luck to both the Palmers and the Obszarskis on their home sales. At least you have the best realtor ever. Trust me.

The above photo also makes it difficult to get anything done around the house! I get up for three seconds and they take over my “desk!”

Seattle had a minor earthquake this morning. I was sorry we slept through it. I heard they were frequent here, but we have yet to feel any tremors. It was centered about 14 miles from us, and was a 4.5. Most witnesses have called it “mild.” So anyone who saw that, no worries. Everything here is fine. People are losing their jobs, but that’s not really unique to Seattle!

If you get sick of the snow, come on out! We have nice, mild weather out here. Sorry, but I’m not missing your snow. You can have it!

The girls’ Nana is sick! They are sad she is feeling under the weather.

We all wanted to send some warm fuzzies to mom so she is feeling better soon.

This picture is about as warm and fuzzy as it gets!

The home office

I haven’t written in a week because there is just not much going on. Hmm…

I worked Tuesday through Thursday doing paste up, and Friday I worked in the “home office.” I always have a few extra projects going on.

We went to yoga yesterday, and then hung around the house. Mike watched XU win and I watched Miss Indiana win on the Miss America pageant. (I love the Miss America pageant, and it doesn’t suck anymore now that TLC took over.

I have no idea what I’m going to do today. I’ve got the usual work projects going on – the realty blog and I have a logo to work on for something for Mike. Plus I’m shopping for some new paraben-free lipstick, leaning toward Korres, but can’t decide on a color!

By the way, if you haven’t seen cakewrecks.com, you have to check it out. I have been meaning to post a link. Lauren introduced me to it. HILARIOUS. Btw, it’s funnier when you read the entries in a big chunk.

Mike and I are having a Scrubs marathon right now, meaning this blog entry is taking me forever. Cortny out.

Sunday in Seattle

Author: admin

We kept pretty busy this weekend. It was not a long one for Mike (although I’m not going back to work until tomorrow). Sunday we woke up to a beautiful and very very sunny day. We had already decided we were going to head down to the Pacific Science Center, and thought we’d stop by the Space Needle as well.

The Pacific Science Center had an exhibit I had been wanting to see – Lucy’s Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethiopia. “Lucy” is a 3.2 million year-old fossil of one of our ancestors (Australopithecus afarensis for you nerds out there). Having learned all about her in a college class (and from my dad), I thought I should take advantage of the exhibit. Well, it was very cool to see “her” in person, although we were not allowed to take pictures.

We made our way through the rest of the science center. It’s a lot like CoSi, a little bit like the one in Cincy (although bigger and mostly for older kids.) It had an amazing butterfly conservatory, I have never seen so many butterflies in such a small space! I will put some pictures in my albums.

After the science center, we went over to the Space Needle. We have passes, so we like to use them when we are in the area. It was so nice to be up there on such a pretty day! You can see that for yourself.

Today was completely uneventful. I did not do what we are supposed to do on MLK day, so I will have to keep that in mind. Instead I worked and ran errands at Target, which reminded me that I need to stop going to Target on off-school days! Yikes, it was a zoo.

Tomorrow I go back to work for a couple of days. I’m ready for a routine again.

(This is us, self portrait while waiting for Marley & Me to start this afternoon.)

So we started off this week with good intentions of a fruit fast/detox diet/yoga thing. We’ve done it before, as I wrote about long ago.

Well, I had suggested it because I thought Mike would appreciate it. And because it sounded like a good way to start the year as we, like most of you I’m sure, had ended 2008 with a lot of laziness and eating!

He was doing it because he thought I wanted to. Long story short, our hearts weren’t in it and we cancelled it by the end of our first all-fruit day. The first two days are just light protein (chicken) and whole grains (brown rice,) which was fine.

I just don’t even really like fruit that much. I mean, I like it. But to eat NOTHING but fruit? Well, it’s hard. Especially when Martha Stewart does a segment on cheese. Really?

So, so much for that “resolution,” which wasn’t.

Here’s a few others I’m working on.

★ Do Stuff.
I seem to make this resolution a lot, under various guises. But the funny thing about working sporadically is that is extremely easy to get NOTHING done as a result! I fall into a “I’ll do it later” attitude, and then it gets contagious. So, do stuff. That’s not so hard, right? I’m going back to B&M next week, so it should restart my system a bit.

★ Wear Mascara.
Not just wear mascara, but in line with the above resolution, my goal is to actually, get dressed in the morning, even if I’m not going anywhere. I usually just throw on jeans and a Tshirt. But then I’ll run out in that, messy hair, no make-up (not that I wear much anyway, but still!) I watch enough What Not to Wear to know better. So I bought myself some of the good mascara, along with a couple other tiny luxuries at Sephora a couple weeks ago. I might not get the mascara out until 1:30, but so far so good. Much funner, too. (Yes, I realize that is not a proper word. Proper words are not on my list this year.)

Perhaps my third resolution should be make soda. More on that in the future.
