Abandoned fruit fasts and other resolutions
Author: admin
(This is us, self portrait while waiting for Marley & Me to start this afternoon.)
So we started off this week with good intentions of a fruit fast/detox diet/yoga thing. We’ve done it before, as I wrote about long ago.
Well, I had suggested it because I thought Mike would appreciate it. And because it sounded like a good way to start the year as we, like most of you I’m sure, had ended 2008 with a lot of laziness and eating!
He was doing it because he thought I wanted to. Long story short, our hearts weren’t in it and we cancelled it by the end of our first all-fruit day. The first two days are just light protein (chicken) and whole grains (brown rice,) which was fine.
I just don’t even really like fruit that much. I mean, I like it. But to eat NOTHING but fruit? Well, it’s hard. Especially when Martha Stewart does a segment on cheese. Really?
So, so much for that “resolution,” which wasn’t.
Here’s a few others I’m working on.
★ Do Stuff.
I seem to make this resolution a lot, under various guises. But the funny thing about working sporadically is that is extremely easy to get NOTHING done as a result! I fall into a “I’ll do it later” attitude, and then it gets contagious. So, do stuff. That’s not so hard, right? I’m going back to B&M next week, so it should restart my system a bit.
★ Wear Mascara.
Not just wear mascara, but in line with the above resolution, my goal is to actually, get dressed in the morning, even if I’m not going anywhere. I usually just throw on jeans and a Tshirt. But then I’ll run out in that, messy hair, no make-up (not that I wear much anyway, but still!) I watch enough What Not to Wear to know better. So I bought myself some of the good mascara, along with a couple other tiny luxuries at Sephora a couple weeks ago. I might not get the mascara out until 1:30, but so far so good. Much funner, too. (Yes, I realize that is not a proper word. Proper words are not on my list this year.)
Perhaps my third resolution should be make soda. More on that in the future.
