Is it summer yet?

Author: admin

Look at me, I’m blogging again! Maybe I’ve been waiting for Summer… I think it’s almost here. Or basically here, with some lapses. It must be summer because we’re leaving on our trip in less than two weeks, we just got a new grill, I’ve ordered a couple of swimsuits (on sale already, of course…)

The new grill is awesome! We’ve been planning this grill a long time. It’s a fancy one! It’s called the Big Green Egg. It’s a wood charcoal (not the toxic briquettes,) grill/smoker/oven. It’s ceramic so it keeps heat really well and has temperature adjustment. I don’t know much else. I like it because it’s small, fits on the deck, is cute and doesn’t need a cover (because I think grill covers are so ugly and didn’t really want one in the front of my house.) Isn’t it cute?? ;)

In other summer news, my parents booked their vacation here for June!! I’m so grateful and thrilled that mom and dad are coming out again. I can’t wait.

We are going on our Alaska Cruise soon – we leave on the 22nd. That is also my last day of work at MBA, which has been fun and interesting. It’s fun to work in a housing-related industry, since I’ve been working for Amy B on the realty stuff. Gives me ideas for her blog, etc.

I’m also working on a wedding invite and have an Ideal Bite event on Saturday! When it rains, it pours. Seriously. Oh, and Tilly has an ear infection and is on her third week of medicine!

Mostly, I’ve just been tired! I’ll try to update again soon.

Tulips!

Author: admin

I’m sorry I haven’t blogged in a bit. I’m just ALL over the place these days. I’m busy at work and busy at home and, on top of that, just haven’t had much to talk about.

I’m purposely NOT talking about the speeding tickets (yes, ticketS) that i got. Please don’t ask me, I don’t feel like talking about it!

The weekend before last we ventured up to the tulip festival. About an hour away. Mike posted all the pictures from it. It was so much fun! Not something you need to spend a lot of time doing, but amazing to see so many tulips in one place!! I’ve never seen a ‘crop’ of tulips before. Amazing. Check out Mike’s blog to see more.

Matilda has an ear infection, but she’s fine. Just had to work in another trip to the vet this week. Of course she couldn’t have had one a week ago when she went in for her check-up ;).

We just got back from Mike’s Chili… We’re full!!

Happy Earth Day

Author: admin

I have liked Earth Day since way before it was cool. Except that I always think it’s the 21st (it’s the 22, I know.)

I was thinking about some of my favorite “green” things, and thought I’d share.

Ecover Laundry Stain Remover: This stuff is AMAZING. I switched to it as I have switched all my cleaning products, but this is my favorite! (Second favorite is the Method toilet bowl cleaner, smells great.) It works better than shout, and has taken out all my stains. I even use it on the carpet. Yesterday I got salsa on a new white sweater, and applied it, scrubbed it with a toothbrush and hot water and then rinsed it — gone! Didn’t even have to wash it.

My fabric shower liner: I chose a fabric liner instead of a plastic one just ‘cause they say to avoid plastic when you can…. (And I love the plastic ones because I think they smell like pool floaties.) But I can wash the fabric one when it gets yucky, it doesn’t get water stains and I feel like I’m in a hotel when I shower. And it is even the color green.

Tom’s of Maine: This toothpaste tastes weird at first, but now I love it and think the other stuff tastes like sugar. (It does have saccharine in it.) I switched to this stuff b/c I was getting canker sores all the time, and I get less now, thank goodness. And, bonus, it is also earth frendlier.

Composting: Composting is awesome!! Mostly because I don’t have to do it, City of Seattle does it. But we can now compost or recycle almost everything and it’s fantastic. Makes garbage day a little more complicated, but it’s so nice to create less trash. Trash stresses me out.

Rags: Speaking of trash, I have switched almost entirely to rags. We always have old Tshirts and boxers we’re filtering out, and I have a couple of specialty rags that I bought. I can clean all the glass doors and mirrors with one glass cloth and wash it, instead of tons of paper towels. I spend so much less on paper towels now, and I mean WAY less. I hardly ever have to buy them. We also use cloth napkins — I have a bowl of multi-colored napkins from Crate and Barrel, and I do one load about every 3 weeks of napkins w/ kitchen towels. No biggie! I don’t have to figure out where to store all those napkins, and I don’t have to trash/compost them.

My soda maker: I still love Coke, but the soda maker is great! Mostly I can’t say how great it is to no longer have cans and cans to recycle. (Hubby goes through lots of cans :)

Yoga: So it’s not really a green thing, but it makes you feel more connected to the earth and other people, and all that warm fuzzy stuff. And I do love it. And I look really cute in my yoga clothes.

Picture takin’

Last Thursday (or maybe it was Friday) was so beautiful , I went around the neighborhood to take some pictures of all the pretty flowers. Some pretty puppies ended up in there too. You can check out my album. I haven’t added photos forever! I will update it soon.

Back to the theatre!

Author: admin

This is our new theatre! We started our subscription to ACT (Technically, A Contemporary Theatre, but I only call it that in Playhouse bios.) It’s a great venue — an old Eagles Hall with a modern theatre built into the space. It’s a round stage with seats all around it. Think, lower level of the Marx theatre only wrapped in a circle. And our seats are great.

We saw Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which just so happens to be the same play they are showing now at the Playhouse. Good show!

Happy Easter everyone. We celebrated at brunch this morning at Ponti, a restaurant in Fremont. We’re off to meet a friend for pizza in a bit.

Work is going fine. Moving right along, 6 weeks to go on the job. Aside from the 6:30 alarm, it’s good.
